The Japanese linguistics major/minor is designed to complement the Japanese language study. It covers a variety of topics in linguistics, from phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax to sociolinguistics and its teaching as a foreign language in cooperation with the School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics in CASS.

Japanese linguistics study provides students with a solid foundation upon which to develop their interests in the Japanese language, its use and its structure. Knowledge of the Japanese language is required for some but not all courses in the Japanese linguistics study.
