Professor Jenny Corbett announced as ANU Japan Institute Director

The ANU Japan Institute’s Executive Committee is pleased  to announce Professor Jenny Corbett as the new Japan Institute Director, beginning December 2016. Jenny is Distinguished Professor in the Crawford School of Public Policy and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. Among a variety of prestigious appointments, Jenny was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training) from 2012 to 2016, and was also the Executive Director of the Australia-Japan Research Centre, at the Crawford School from 2005 to 2012.

Jenny’s vision for the Institute includes widening the fields of engagement between ANU and Japan to build on the strong links in the Science and Technology areas  and to connect these with the deep understanding of Japan’s society and economy that ANU has traditionally had.

The ANU Japan Institute’s Executive Committee would like to thank Associate Professor Simon Avenell for his hard work over the last two years as ANU Japan Institute Director. Under Simon’s direction, the ANU Japan Institute has excelled in its role as Australia’s largest network of distinguished and emerging scholars with professional expertise on Japan who research and teach in disciplines spanning art, economics, environment, health, history, international relations, language, law, linguistics, politics, regulation and Japanese Studies. Simon has taken on a new role as Associate Dean (HDR) in CAP but will continue to serve on the Japan Institute Executive Committee.
