Classic Japanese Film Series - Hateshinaki Yokubo (Endless Desire)

The Department of Pacific and Asian History and the Japan Institute are proud to present a series of politically, socially, and artistically significant films from Japan during the 1930s-1960s. The series features the early works of five of Japan’s greatest film directors.

Each film tackles the problems of daily life in modern Japan. Matters of sex, power, duty, familial bonds, and personal awakening are explored through each historical epoch. All films are English subtitled.

The fourth film of this series will be the 1958 film 果てしなき欲望 (Endless Desire), directed by Imamura Shohei.
