Classic Japanese Film Series - Banshun (Late Spring)

The Department of Pacific and Asian History and the Japan Institute are proud to present a series of politically, socially, and artistically significant films from Japan during the 1930s-1960s. The series features the early works of five of Japan’s greatest film directors.

Each film tackles the problems of daily life in modern Japan. Matters of sex, power, duty, familial bonds, and personal awakening are explored through each historical epoch. All films are English subtitled.

The third film in this series will be the 1949 film 晩春 (Late Spring), directed by Ozu Yasujiro.
