Between a rock and a hard place? Territorial disputes in North-East Asia

Joint ANU China Institute/ANU Japan Institute/ANU Korea Institute Roundtable - Between a Rock and a Hard Place? Territorial Disputes in North-East Asia.

Rising tensions between China and Japan over control of the Senkaku / Diaoyu Islands and between Japan and Korea over control of Dokdo / Takeshima are causing worldwide concern. What are the underlying causes of the upsurge of territorial disputes in Northeast Asia? Why have these disputes suddenly become so heated? What are the options and prospects for conflict resolution? What role, if any, can other countries of the region play in the search for resolutions?

Speakers will provide an in depth insight into the current disputes. There will be ample discussion time after the speaker's presentations.
